The major types of college essays

There are four major types of college essays that you will write. When you understand the major difference between each one your writing assignments will be that much easier. The four major types of college essays are: Narrative Essays, Descriptive Essays, Expository Essays, Persuasive essays. Through this article we will explore the differences between each one.

Narrative Essays (Story Time)

Writing a narrative essay isn’t much different than writing a story. This isn’t to imply that it’s the same as writing a short piece of fiction. In this case it’s more like a news story or a magazine article. You will tell a story about a real life experience – either yours or someone else’s. It is typically written in the first person perspective. At the end of the essay you will have delivered a personal statement or belief in a powerful and effective way.

Security Risks on the Web: Problems and Solutions

In recent years, the internet has become such a powerful tool, to the extent of being labeled as a `necessary evil.` This is quite evident from the variety of services being offered via the internet, and the vast opportunities that it has provided. It has introduced efficiency and convenience, such that virtually most of the things that required people to travel and go through extensive documentation, can now be achieved by the click of a button at the comfort of one`s living room.

According to Simson Garfinkel, web security is a set of procedures, practices and technologies for protecting web servers, web users and their surrounding organizations.

Despite the many positive things that are attached to the internet, it also comes loaded with challenges, which may sometimes be over-looked but can be very lethal and destructive. As web developers continue to come up with new security innovations, criminals also work by the clock to catch up in a bid to compromise the security. According Lech Janczewski, some of the web security threats in this day and age include: system malfunctions, errors and omissions, regulatory and contractual exposure and unauthorized disclosure. Such threats may either be internal or external.

External security risks are even more dangerous, because they most often emanate from criminals such as hackers.Hackers may be able to access people’s emails, and confidential information such as passwords and bank account information. Such unscrupulous people may also have the intention of hacking into popular websites and enjoy free publicity because most websites are frequented by thousands of people. Vandalism is most often the major drive for hackers.

Another form of web security threat is in the form of dubious Software and Applications which are most often disguised as valid. Once installed, they introduce viruses which are able to access user accounts and send confidential information to the criminal developers. Such viruses come in many forms and while others are meant to spy on information, others are made with the purpose of completely stalling web operations or damage the website.

However, there are a number of remedies which can be used to ensure that web security is not compromised. According to Janczewski, the best methods to ensure web security, is through the use of strong firewalls and encryption. Janczewski defines a firewall as a system that has the ability to control the flow of data in and around a network. Strong firewalls are able to screen out anything that is prohibited. Janczewski also advocates for encryption as one of the best ways to secure the transfer of data. Using encryption, a private key cryptography is used. There is one shared key, which is able to encrypt the data for the sender, and decrypt data safely for the recipient. Stronger encryptions are however advised, to ensure safety from crackers. Another way to ensure web security is to keep away from software and applications which the source is not verified.
