The four major types of college essays are: Narrative Essays, Descriptive Essays, Expository Essays, Persuasive essays. Through this article we will explore the differences between each one.
Writing a narrative essay isn’t much different than writing a story. This isn’t to imply that it’s the same as writing a short piece of fiction. In this case it’s more like a news story or a magazine article. You will tell a story about a real life experience – either yours or someone else’s. It is typically written in the first person perspective. At the end of the essay you will have delivered a personal statement or belief in a powerful and effective way.

The Cuban missile crisis was an event that almost brought the world a nuclear disaster. The escalation of a nuclear was predicted by John F. Kennedy to be between a 1 in 3 chance of actually happening. The facts of the situation is that the Soviet Union had deployed 100 tactical nuclear weapons to Cuba. The local Soviet commander in Cuba could have launched these weapons that were sent without additional codes or commands from Moscow, and there was a scheduled U.S. air strike that could have triggered a nuclear response against American ships and troops. If the Cuban missile crisis were fulfilled, over 100 million Americans and 100 million Russians could have died in the resulting war. It was because of American foreign policy that the crisis was diverted and resolved without war. This is a particular instance that is now looked as one of the best avoidance of a disastrous war in the United State’s foreign policy history.
It was at the last minute that the crisis was resolved, and the Cuban missile crisis came to a close after Khrushchev accepted a final U.S. offer. The offer from the United States promised that they would not invade Cuba if the Soviet missiles were withdrawn. This was a public deal in which the United States pledged not to invade, though the secret sweetener of this foreign policy agreement was that the U.S. would withdraw missiles from Turkey if the crisis was resolved in 6 months. This was a secret deal that kept many of the members of ExComm in the dark until the last minute strikes. Kennedy’s willingness to negotiate has been one of the major factors that diverted the Cuban missile crisis, and without shrewd thinking it could have resulted in a lasting war for many years to come.
Because of Kennedy’s willingness to negotiate, the crisis was diverted and millions of lives were spared. In present day, this is an example of how foreign policy can be considered a positive intervention in the face of a potential catastrophe. The way the foreign policy of the Cuban missile crisis was handled now is looked to as an example of how to properly negotiate terms even in present day foreign policy. Whichever is the case, this is one moment in history of flawless negotiations of foreign policy.
