The major types of college essays

There are four major types of college essays that you will write. When you understand the major difference between each one your writing assignments will be that much easier. The four major types of college essays are: Narrative Essays, Descriptive Essays, Expository Essays, Persuasive essays. Through this article we will explore the differences between each one.

Narrative Essays (Story Time)

Writing a narrative essay isn’t much different than writing a story. This isn’t to imply that it’s the same as writing a short piece of fiction. In this case it’s more like a news story or a magazine article. You will tell a story about a real life experience – either yours or someone else’s. It is typically written in the first person perspective. At the end of the essay you will have delivered a personal statement or belief in a powerful and effective way.

Taylor White

Taylor White is a famous artist known primarily for her fine pictoral convention. Taylor White has a background in illustration which contributes to her work. As an artist she has gained success because of her incorporation of different artistic elements and principles.

There are “elements” in art that are used along with the “principles” of art to depict something accurately in an image. For example, if an object in a work of art is to be represented as existing “at a distance” from the viewer, it will have less clarity and detail than objects meant to appear closer. This is achieved through the use of line, shape and form, value, texture, space and color. A line is usually defined as a recognizable path created by a moving point in space. For example, lines can vary in length, width or direction, but they tend to define the edges of a form and can be straight, curved, horizontal, vertical or diagonal. Shape and form is defined in art, as lines of height, width and depth that the artists create. We see these elements in patterns, natural objects, geometrics, and more.

“Value” is the use of light or dark, shade or highlight, or oppositional colors and hues is how we comprehend value. It is usually the way that contrast can help the artist to achieve their goals, and is often seen as the way that light and dark have been used in a particular work. In art we can define texture through the actual surface quality of an object, but there is also a method of conveying texture in a two-dimensional work as well. For example, the creation of folds of fabric in a garment is a good example of texture in art. In art can be three dimensional if it is sculpture, but is normally the “feeling” of depth created by the use of various elements and principles. There are “positive and negative” space relationships that artists might use to isolate or emphasize an area of the work, and then there are the illusions of space created by the use of line, shading, and perspective to create a sense of three dimensions.

Overall this artist has captured the hearts of many adoring fans because of the visceral use of artistic elements and principles. Her work will always lead the eye of the viewer around the composition and are meant to communicate relevant information through their properties and directions.
